Buying diamond jewelry involves spending a lot of your hard earned cash and therefore it is very important to know at least some basic information about diamonds. More importantly, you should familiarize yourself with the four Cs so that you can be able to decide which one among the four Cs deserves more attention when going to shop for diamond jewelry. The four Cs stand for Cut, Clarity, Carat, and Color.
Cut
This symbolizes how the different faces of diamond are created to utilize maximum amount of light that is sucked up, redirected, and later on released. Simply put, Cut in diamond jewelry has to be very perfect if your jewelry has to sparkle and shine enough to grab the attention of people. It is important to know that the Cut is at the mercy of the craftsman, but the remaining three Cs are all about the natural quality of your jewelry over which you have no control over.
Color
This can be less important to a buyer as colorless diamonds are in high demand and rare hence are the most expensive in the market. Generally though, diamonds are available in different shades of yellows and whites and at times are available in brown. When purchasing a piece of diamond jewelry that has several stones under a single piece, it is always advisable to select a color of diamond that matches and complements all other colors. Further, you should always avoid any diamond jewelry that appears milky in color.
Clarity
As the name would suggest, clarity indicates the purity of your jewelry meaning therefore that lack of clarity in diamonds the jewelry is flawed. Even though it is very rare and quite expensive therefore to find flawless diamonds, you should avoid diamonds that have obviously noticeable black flecks when viewed by the naked human eye, chipped diamonds, or those that have cracks or appeared feathered when viewed under a gem scope.
Carat
This can be described as the weight of a given diamond which is measured on a scale of 100 where 100 points of a given jewelry of diamond equals to one carat. Therefore, a 50 point means the diamond jewelry is half a carat, and a 25 point means the given jewelry is a quarter carat. As a point of advice, the Carat C should be your last priority as it is far much better to end up with a small, flawless charming Cut, almost colorless diamond than to end up with a large 3 carat diamond jewelry that has no luster or sparkle.
As mentioned, buying diamond jewelry can be a very costly affair. As such, it is highly recommended that you clearly define your budget before going out to buy diamond jewelry because due to the glamour and charm associated with diamond jewelry, you can easily buy impulsively and exceed your budget limitations.
